Time to Retyre!

It’s new boots day for the Katana. First up though is checking the alignment out with the new laser rig, which is such a satisfying tool. The Katana suffered with a horrible tank slapper if taking the hands off the bars or only having a light grip at around 40mph+. I had my suspicions that it was down to tyres or alignment. Not having the correct fitment front tyre probably didn’t help either.

Clearly the alignment was way off between the front and rear wheels. The fluid bubbles ensure the front wheel is straight. Lasers on the rear wheels hit the targets mounted to the front wheel. This shows the rear wheel is not aligned.

Hover bike!!

New Pirelli Sport Demons replacing the Avon Road Riders.

The front 110/90/16 is replaced with the correct size 120/80/16 and a 130/80/18 rear Pirelli Sport Demon.

I take the opportunity to clean up the calipers and pads.

Re-aligning the geometry, a perfect match left to right.

A big difference from the previous figures.

All ready to go…

Pleasingly, this completely cured the tank slapper weave I was previously experiencing, the grip from the new tyres seems superb and perfectly suits the Katana.
